Social Justice

"IT IS NOT ENOUGH TO BE COMPASSIONATE. YOU MUST ACT."
- Tenzin Gyatso, 14th Dalai Lama, 1992

GPUC's Social Justice program involves our congregation in various community endeavors. For instance, we collect and donate thousands of pounds of food each year to Crossroads East (an east-side food bank and social services provider located inside the building housing Salem Memorial Lutheran Church on Moross at Chester),  have an active tutoring program in a Detroit public school (Detroit Merit Academy), we have an active LGBTQ presence (our congregation hosts monthly PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays), and are involved in antiracism work.
